Jackery Explorer 240 v2 Portable Power Station

I bought the 1000V2, then saw the 240V2 on offer. Both combined were still cheaper than the 'plus' models while offering the convenience of being able to take the supply that best suits the task. This unit includes wifi and bluetooth connectivity with the Jackery App, the only thing that's 'missing' feature wise vs the 1000v2 are the dedicated DC8020 ports for solar/12V charging - this taking please instead via the USB-C input. When buying, don't forget to add the USB-C to DC8020 adapter so you can use a car charger/etc with the unit. Mains charging is usually fast - I say usually because the speed seems to depend on the current state of charge, temperature etc. Sometimes it does seem a bit random whether it will charge at 300watts or 60watts. Im hoping that a firmware update (these are done via the app) will improve this.

I’ve been running the 240v1 for over a year when camping and am impressed with quality and reliability so it was a no brainer to buy the latest 240v2 for additional capacity whilst still keeping the units small and portable. I keep them topped up with 80w portable solar panels and they are small enough to also charge from the car if I’m out on a day trip. Keeps my laptop charged and allows me to work off grid when away - longest without plugging my laptop into a wall socket has so far been over 3weeks. No hesitation to recommend Jackery.

I have had my Jackery for a couple of weeks now and have mixed feelings about it. I bought it to cover 2 purposes. Firstly, to cater for emergencies, to provide me with power when the electricity network fails me. Secondly to provide power in awkward places - in my workshop or in remote corners of the garden. It is purely the mains voltage socket that I was interested in. This can provide power at mains voltage for low power use, so it can power lighting, a radio, probably my freezer. So far I have only tested it using a radio - the radio draws 3 watts of power according to the meter - it runs out of power after about 20 hours use after a full charge (tested twice) - this is massively less than I would get out of a set of rechargeable AA batteries at a fraction of the cost. So, on that front it fails badly. For a very short emergency though, it may still have it's uses - still to be decided. I won't buy another though until the technology has improved and the price stabilised at a lower level.
